Mahesh Manjrekar, born 20 February 1961 in Mumbai, is one of the most influential figures across Marathi and Hindi cinema, acclaimed as both director and actor.
A lifelong Mumbaikar, Manjrekar has been based in Versova for much of his career, working at the heart of the city's film production ecosystem.
His directorial debut Vaastav (1999) remains a landmark of Indian crime cinema, and he has since built an extensive body of work as director, actor and producer, including Astitva and the Lalbaug Parel franchise.
