Ashok Saraf, born 4 June 1947 in Mumbai, is one of the most beloved comic actors in Marathi and Hindi cinema, with a career spanning more than five decades and over 180 films and plays.
A lifelong Mumbaikar, Saraf grew up and built his career in the city's traditional Marathi cultural heartland around Dadar.
Known for his impeccable comic timing in films like Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi and Dhum Dhadaka, as well as memorable Hindi roles, Saraf was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2018-19 for his contribution to cinema.
