I recently had the privilege of dining at The Maratha...
I recently had the privilege of dining at The Maratha Kitchen, courtesy of our boss, who treated our team to a lunch outing. What started as a casual team lunch quickly turned into one of the most memorable Maharashtrian dining experiences I have had in recent times. As someone from the hospitality industry and a passionate food enthusiast, I can confidently say that The Maratha Kitchen stands apart for its authenticity, consistency, and unwavering commitment to quality. Much of the credit goes to owner Abhishek Tulaskar, a passionate hotelier with extensive industry experience. His understanding of food, sourcing, and guest experience is evident in every aspect of the restaurant. One thing that immediately impressed me was Abhishek's uncompromising approach towards the quality of mutton served. He is extremely selective about sourcing and accepts nothing short of the best. In an era where portion sizes are often shrinking, The Maratha Kitchen takes a refreshingly generous approach. Almost every mutton entrรฉe contains nearly a quarter kilogram of mutton, ensuring diners receive both exceptional quality and outstanding value. Our group of six largely opted for the Maratha Mutton Thali and Kolhapuri Mutton Thali, accompanied by Bombil Rawa Fry and Prawn Rawa Fry, Mutton kharda, Prawn agri masala. The thalis are thoughtfully curated and offer a complete Maharashtrian culinary experience. Each thali includes Mutton Sukka, Mutton Rassa, Alni Rassa, Solkadhi, fragrant Indrayani Rice, and a choice between traditional Jowar Bhakri or rice bhakri and koshimbir. The waiting time for the thalis was approximately 20-25 minutes, but the freshness and quality of preparation made the wait completely worthwhile. The Bombil Rawa Fry deserves special mention. The bombil was expertly flattened, marinated beautifully, coated with rawa, and fried until perfectly crisp while retaining its delicate texture. The Prawn Rawa Fry was equally impressive, fresh, juicy, and packed with flavour. Coming to the star attraction, the mutton. The Mutton Sukka was robust and flavourful, showcasing a perfect balance of spices while allowing the quality of the meat to shine through. The Mutton Rassa was rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying. However, the true hero of the meal was undoubtedly the Alni Rassa. Often overshadowed by its spicier counterparts, this version was exceptional. Light yet intensely flavourful, it carried the essence of slow-cooked mutton stock and delivered remarkable depth and comfort with every spoonful. The restaurant's Tambda Rassa and Pandhra Rassa are beautifully balanced. They provide enough spice and richness to excite the palate without overwhelming the natural flavour of the meat. If there is one dish that every diner must order, it is unquestionably the Mutton Kharda. In my opinion, it is one of the finest versions available in the city today. Despite being one of the simplest preparations on the menu, it was easily the most memorable dish of the afternoon. Tender pieces of mutton are slow-cooked in ghee and paired with freshly pounded green chilli thecha and turmeric. The meat is so tender that it effortlessly falls off the bone. The richness of the ghee beautifully complements the sharp heat of the chillies, creating a dish that is rustic, honest, and incredibly flavourful. Sometimes the simplest recipes produce the most unforgettable results, and this dish is proof of that. Another standout was the Agri Prawns, tossed in a bold Agri-style masala and cooked with the shells intact to preserve maximum flavour. Every bite delivered an authentic coastal character that seafood lovers will appreciate. After such a hearty and spice-forward meal, the desserts provided the perfect conclusion. The Peru Ice Cream was refreshing and unique, while the Narali Bhat Ice Cream brilliantly captured the essence of the traditional Maharashtrian sweet dish in frozen form. Both desserts acted as excellent palate cleansers and a fitting finale to the meal. Rating: 4.8/5

Something or the other is always missing from their menu......
Something or the other is always missing from their menu... Would love to be able to order any dish... Hence the 4... Else the food and service and atmosphere is awesome! Crisp fried fish awesome thalis... The crabs that could be deshelled slightly... Especially if they are the big ones with the hard shell or they are very difficult to enjoy to the fullest which is a shame because they are absolutely finger licking good... Been there twice already looking forward to going there many more times.

A very good spot for authentic Maharashtrian-style mutton thali in Bombay. Good job with the interiors and music, beautifully capture Maharashtraโs culture While itโs still not quite at the level of the iconic thalis in Pune, itโs definitely a great start for Bombay. The mutton quality was good and the portions are huge โ almost too huge. Looking forward to going back and trying more dishes.
