I've been Dr. Mihir Bapat's patient since over a decade...
I've been Dr. Mihir Bapat's patient since over a decade when he was in KDA. After a squash injury on back, immobile for almost 3 months, upper half of the body twisted to adjust for pain, is when I met him. Words cannot express how he managed my case. There's something unique about Dr. Bapat that is unlike most doctors. He cares to not only understand the patients concern but also explains the intricacies of the issue to the patient in a kind and gentle manner, that not only comforts the patient but also empowers the patient to know exactly what is going on inside this mysterious human body. And this experience of mine has been tried and tested several times as I've referred dozens and dozens of patients to Dr. Bapat. One specific case that stands out is of a team member's mother, who was avoiding surgery, afraid of the consequences. Fear of the unknown I assume. I learnt about his mothers problem when he applied for a few leaves over several months as he hopped from doctor to doctor to rid her of the pain... but seemed to be resigning to fate by then. It took me a couple weeks to convince my team mate to take his mother to just one more doctor - Dr. Bapat. He told me that is mother was petrified of the thought of a surgery... each doctor she met made her fear worse and was sick of meeting doctors now... I had to play to boss to have him make at least make one visit to Dr. Bapat with his mother. The outcome was magical. He then told me that she would freeze inside every doctors cabin. Fear would engulf her and she could barely communicate, triggered by the lack of her comfort in any language besides her native tongue. But he said that the visit to Dr. Bapat was a trip to miracle land, he comforted her, explained her gently and she first time spoke back. When the doctor recommended surgery, she immediately agreed. Even after half a decade, she is perfectly fine now. That's doctor Bapat for you. And you need not go to him only if you are too desperate for a surgery, he's good for ongoing back concerns as well. My wife had a niggle when I took her to KDA hoping to find Dr. Bapat but he had moved to Nanavati. Met some other doctor who strongly recommended to get an MRI, saying "it could be a critical matter". I skipped that process and then met Dr. Bapat at Nanavati - 10 min of chat and he told her she'll be fine in a few weeks. And she was :-)
