There's a reading hall here, called as night study centre which is open for 6 to 9 pm. Though it's more like a cafe because people keep chatting and eating food at this place when some people study, One day only music was missing, so one guy brought a guitar and started playing wonderwall. Truly an amazing place, must visit once. If you are bored at home, coming here will cheer you up ๐
The first worship centre in Mumbai of theย Kerala-based...
The first worship centre in Mumbai of theย Kerala-based Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church โ also known as theย Indian Orthodox Church. The original church was consecrated on 9th December 1951. This first church of the Malankara Orthodox Christians of Mumbai, which celebrated the diamond jubilee in the year 2009, was elevated to the rank of Cathedral in the same year, by an His Holiness Moran Mar Baselius Marthoma Didymos I, seventh Catholicos of the East. Like the other Kerala-based Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, this is another church of theย ethnic Saint Thomas Christian community, which had its origin in the evangelical activity of Thomas โ an Apostle of Jesus Christ,ย in theย 1st century. (Malankara is an historical name of modern Kerala). All the โSyrianโ churches in the early days, had their liturgy in Syriac โ an ancient Middle Eastern language, and acknowledged the spiritual leadership of the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch. To make it more relevant to worshippers, both churches now have their liturgy in Malayalam. (Antioch, then a city of ancient Syria, is now in south-central Turkey, near the Syrian border. This location is believed to have been the cradle of early Jewish-Gentile Christianity.) On account of the limited space available on the plot leased from the Bombay Municipal Corporation, the cathedral itself is of modest proportions. No parking is available in the premises, or even on the roads outside. A night school is conducted in the basement. The cathedral is not very far from Dadar station โ where the Western and Central railway lines converge. So it is convenient for commuters from both the Western and Eastern suburban areas of the city. Those coming the Navi Mumbai area (by Harbour line) would have to shift at Kurla to a train on the Central Railway line. This church is near an old landmark โ the Dadar T.T. (tram terminus), which has now become obscure. There are plenty of buses โ both BEST and state transport, running close by. Another Dadar landmark is what is known today asย the Portuguese Church. A Catholic church (Ossa Senhora de Salvaรงรฃo) was originally built at this location by the Portuguese Franciscans in 1596. But, this is quite a distance from the St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral. During the cotton mill era of Mumbai, Dadar was the location of the largest mills โ Bombay Dyeing (Spring Mills), Gold Mohur Mills, Kohinoor Mills, Ruby Mills and Tata Mills, were in the neighbourhood. [โ I am a member of another Christian denomination, i.e., I'm not a member of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. This review is meant to โenlightenโ those who aren't members of this church, incl. non-Christians.]

I have been a part of this church since my childhood, and have grown to witness and experience God's mercies and blessings in this blessed sanctuary. It amazes me when people hurrying down the street manage to spare a few moments and visit my Church.
