My father was admitted this month under CGHS benefits for diabetic foot surgery. As very few hospitals in Mumbai are empanelled under Central Government Health Schemes, we were relieved to get admission here. The OPD procedures went smoothly. We were later informed that the patient would need to be admitted for a short duration (around two days) for surgical treatment. Since a private room was unavailable at the time, we opted for a multi-sharing ward. Overall, the surgical treatment and interactions with the doctors and specialists were excellent. Dr. Rajeev Singh and his team took great care of the patient and kept us informed about the surgery schedule in advance, ensuring the admission was not done unnecessarily early. However, the experience with the nursing staff was disappointing. Routine procedures were frequently delayed, and when assistance was requested, the behaviour was often rude towards both patients and visitors. In contrast, the ward-boy staff were more cooperative, welcoming, and helpful. The discharge process was particularly frustrating. It began around 10:30 AM, but the paperwork was not handled in a timely manner and took over six hours to complete. There was no clear communication, and responsibility for delays was repeatedly shifted between departments. Since both of my parents and many other patients in the ward are diabetic, such prolonged delays are especially challenging. This is not an overreaction, but a genuine concern. Additionally, the behaviour at the cashier counter was unprofessional. The staff member was rude, provided no estimate of waiting time, did not manage the queue properly, and even threatened to call security when questioned politely. I understand that healthcare jobs demand immense patience and resilience, but this also comes with a responsibility to maintain professionalism and empathy, especially towards patients who are already vulnerable. I am unsure whether these issues stem from hospital management or understaffing, but there is clearly room for improvement and accountability. Despite these concerns, I remain grateful for the medical care and treatment provided by the doctors and the hospital overall.
