Sometimes when you're really lucky, you'll meet someone and they will irrevocably change your life. Dr. Shinjini is definitely one of those people. For the last couple of years, I have been struggling with extremely painful periods, irregular cycles, gut issues and recurrent UTIs. My previous obgyn diagnosed me with a cyst and PCOS and put me on hormones. The cyst kept growing and my treatment was PCOS-focussed. After I couldn't tolerate the pain anymore he advised surgery. Endometriosis was mentioned in the passing but never explained. I didn't even know my cyst was a chocolate cyst. Feeling uncomfortable with the lack of knowledge and a kind of unclear verdict, I did my research and found Doc Shinjini. From the very first visit, I was in awe of her immense knowledge, warm nature and her academic approach to the disease, endometriosis and in my case, adenomyosis as well. She advised a pelvic MRI and after the results, she advised me to go ahead with the excision surgery. Every step was smooth and hassle-free, thanks to the doc and the excellent care team. All my (million) questions were answered, all my fears were listened to. This being my first surgery, I was terribly anxious and the Nalini team really soothed my worries. Shoutout to Dr. Sujata for always being available (and for flexing her painless techniques lol ) I met with Dr. Kalpesh the anaesthesiologist who had been briefed on my situation by Doc S, and knew about the psychiatric medications I took and he very patiently alleviated my anaesthesia fears and explained the process and a tailored pain management plan. I was admitted to Nalini Hospital (Thank God I chose this over Lilavati) and everyone there, and by that I mean literally every nurse, junior doctor, maushi there was warm, wonderful and indulged my weird humour and constant chatter. The surgery went smoothly, all my Endo was removed from everywhere and we said bye bye to my very damaged fallopian tubes. I was in the hospital for 5 days and everyone was so kind, even during my pain-induced tantrums post surgery. And may I mention, most people here have skilled hands, giving you as less pain as possible. Dr. Shinjini, despite her busy schedule and so many surgeries, would see me everyday and check on my health status. If I was unable to communicate, she would communicate and explain everything to my husband. Again, truly inspired by your passion and hard work. Life changing work you're doing by spreading awareness about endometriosis, actually listening and believing in womens’ pain and then providing them with so much support and care. ❤️You're not only a mega talented surgeon you're a beautiful human being. Thank you. It's been two weeks that I've had the excision surgery and now I am healing well, recovering and in constant touch with the team. To end this really long essay, I would recommend Dr. S and team for anyone looking for answers and clarity in their endometriosis journey.
