Ekta Kapoor, born on 7 June 1975 in Mumbai, is the most powerful television producer in India. The daughter of actor Jeetendra, she founded Balaji Telefilms at just 17 and transformed Indian television through the 1990s and 2000s.
Her sagas like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii ran for years with prime-time viewership records, defining an entire era of Indian television and giving rise to the ekta-inspired sas-bahu genre.
She expanded into films with the Dirty Picture, Veere Di Wedding and the Fantasy franchise. A single mother by choice, she is raising son Ravie Kapoor and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2024.
