After visiting Mandapeshwar caves, we decided to see the Eksar Veergal (hero stones) which is hardly 2 km apart. These beautiful hero stones have been in a private place of a residential building. The gatekeepers of that building are quite helpful, so entering there is not an issue. The place is also being used for feeding stray dogs however the gatekeepers assured us that they are harmless. The hero stones are marvelous, especially the one having the ship used as the battlefield.

Eksar Herostone Veeragalโ (Hero Stones) have intricate carvings and are made of flat basalt. About 8-ft high, the stones were built as a tribute to warriors of the Shilahara dynasty navy. The stones at Eksar date back to 10-12th century. The uniqueness of these stones is their depiction of Navy Battles. This important heritage of Mumbai are unique in size and scale and it also a proof that Shilahara dynasty had naval capabilities. The carved panels depicting ships and sailors something rarely seen on hero stones, which usually depict land battles. The Hero stones built up in 12th Centrury Shilahara dynasty and had a navy and fought a sea battle.

Simply brilliant and historic. The quality, composition and finish achieved in this "veergal" creation and execution is straightforward top-of-the-line professional. The fight is between two dynasties of 11th-12th CE between the Shilharas and Yadavas. Unfortunately, no one cares for history and historicity. All the schools and colleges must take their children for such an excursion. On the top one can see Ghata Palav, a pot with dead man ashes as if the hero as an hero's welcome in the heaven with luscious damsels accompanying the hero. Herostones indeed! At Borivli west.
